What is stott pilateS
STOTT PILATES® incorporates modern exercise principles, and applies proven and accepted practices in biomechanics, rehabilitation and athletic performance enhancement. After realising the benefits of the concepts of the original Pilates method, and in collaboration with a team of physical therapists/physiotherapists, sports medicine and exercise professionals, the Merrithew's dissected and re-connected this unique form of exercise into a comprehensive, systematic, contemporary approach to the original teachings.
STOTT PILATES exercises are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine and rebalance the muscles around the joints. This involves placing more emphasis on pelvic and scapular stabilisation, and integration of all the parts of the body into one. As well, preparatory exercises and modifications allow the technique to be appropriate for many different body types and abilities, making it applicable to sport-specific training and everyday life.
THE AIM OF PILATES IS TO DEVELOP OPTIMAL NEUROMUSCULAR PERFORMANCE BY FOCUSING ON CORE STABILITY, WHILE SAFELY BALANCING MUSCULAR STRENGTH WITH FLEXIBILITY.
WHETHER PERFORMED ON A MAT OR ON SPECIALISED EQUIPMENT, PILATES THAT INCORPORATES MODERN THEORIES OF EXERCISE SCIENCE AND SPINAL REHABILITATION SHOULD INVOLVE THE FOLLOWING BIOMECHANICAL PRINCIPLES:-
BREATHING
PELVIC PLACEMENT
RIB CAGE PLACEMENT
SCAPULAR MOVEMENT AND STABILISATION
HEAD AND CERVICAL PLACEMENT
LOWER BODY MOBILITY & STABILITY
BY INTRODUCING THESE PRINCIPLES AND REINFORCING THEM OVER TIME, AWARENESS OF HOW THE BODY MOVES IS DEVELOPED. THIS MIND-BODY AWARENESS ENSURES FOCUS ON PRECISION AND CONTROL TO REALIZE THE FULL BENEFITS OF ANY EXERCISE PROGRAM.
About
Elwira has always led an active lifestyle. As a teenager, she represented her school in both volleyball and track, competing in events at various levels.
Her journey with Pilates began in early 2015 after a serious lower back injury left her bed-bound for nearly two months and facing the possibility of spinal surgery. Searching for an alternative path to recovery, Elwira discovered the STOTT PILATES® method. After just three months of consistent, focused practice, she was pain-free—and avoided surgery altogether. Inspired by the life-changing results, she decided to become a certified instructor to help others improve their quality of life through movement.
Two and a half years of intensive study and training later, Elwira became a fully certified STOTT PILATES® instructor in Matwork, Reformer, and Injuries & Special Populations. She continues to enhance her expertise through the STOTT PILATES® Continuing Education Program, which ensures instructors remain up-to-date with the latest research, techniques, and best practices.
Elwira believes that Pilates is for everyone—whether you're looking to increase your fitness, correct your posture, or recover from an injury. She is highly skilled at creating personalised programs that are carefully tailored to meet the individual needs and goals of each client.
